Two distinct cities about 20 miles apart form the ends of a corridor at the southern tip of the peninsula comprising the municipality of Los Cabos, which means "the capes." Formerly a small fishing village, Cabo San Lucas has grown into a wildly popular tourist destination. Anglers take note: Cabo San Lucas retains the title of "marlin fishing capital of the world." Up the coast to the northwest, San Jose del Cabo is a more laid-back town with many centuries-old colonial buildings. Swimming, snorkeling and surfing are popular pursuits in the warm Gulf waters.
