From Kona International Airport
  • As you exit the Kona International Airport, turn left onto Highway 19 (also called the Queen Ka`ahumanu Highway)
  • Travel north for 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometres), about 10 minutes, until you reach a third left-turn lane
  • You will see a lava rock wall with "Hualalai" written in white letters on the left-hand side of the road

    Kids For All Seasons programme is designed to take advantage of the Resort's tropical environment, expansive grounds and "old Hawai`i" feel. The supervised programme creates memorable and educational experiences in a casual, fun environment. While the hub of activity is the children's centre, kids quickly realise that the entire resort is their playground.

    Junior Alaka'i Nalu
    This three-day programme introduces juniors aged 10 to 17 to the professional lifestyle of the Alaka'i Nalu meaning "leaders of the waves." Juniors who love the ocean will work closely with the Alaka'i Nalu to learn basics of first aid, CPR, pool and ocean safety, rescue skills (including jet ski rescue), two-person and six-person traditional outrigger canoe training, snorkelling, fishing and more. Programme graduates receive an official certificate of completion.

    Our Alaka‘i Nalu – “leaders of the waves” – are Hualalai’s ocean ambassadors. These professionals will share with you not only their skills in water sports, but also their love and knowledge of the Hawaiian culture and the ocean life around the resort.

    Paddle with two experts in a six-person canoe. Whether you’re a novice or a professional, the Alaka‘i Nalu will take you on a Hawaiian ocean adventure customised to suit your fitness and interest levels. Your guides will also tell you the history of the Ka‘upulehu shoreline and introduce you to the marine biology of the Pacific Ocean. (2 hours)

    Two-person canoe paddling
    A Hawaiian-style workout! Experience a truly memorable and fascinating ocean fitness adventure in a two-person outrigger canoe. Work out with an expert canoe paddler as you battle the surf together in an exhilarating paddling session. (80 minutes)

    This programme for children aged 5 to 12 can be reserved through Kids for All Seasons or the Spa.

    Ironman ocean swim
    Ever wonder what it’s like to be an Ironman competitor? Try ocean swimming for fitness, and never again will you be satisfied with the normal lap-pool workout. Our Alaka‘i Nalu will incorporate both swimming and paddle boarding into an invigorating personalised ocean workout for you. (1 hour sessions)

    Learn the Hawaiian sport of kings! The history of surfing dates back to ancient Hawaii. Today, you can experience riding the waves right here at Ka‘upulehu. (2 hours)

    Discover and experience fishing offshore in the wild. Learn different techniques while using a rod and reel. Spend time with the Alaka‘i Nalu learning about the fish of Hawai‘i and the history of fishing in the Islands. (2 hours)

    Hualalai Hikes
    Mauka
    Explore the slopes of Hualalai, the volcano, on a guided 2-to-4-mile (3.2-to-6.4-kilometre) trek through spectacular upslope terrain. Experience lava tubes formed during the creation of the Big Island, walk the crater rim and enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful Kohala coast. Ages 8 and up.
